“Another intriguing release from Unsettled Scores, the chamber, classical, orchestral and modern appeal is executed with tremendous dynamics and a very highly artistic presence.”

– Tom Haugen, Take Effect

Transpositions
By Spy Dénommé-Welch with Catherine Magowan

Transpositions is a sonic exploration of the relationship between health and the environment. The work is written for viola, bass trombone/tuba and piano as part of Dr. Spy Dénommé-Welch’s self-directed residency with Native Earth Performing Arts, and performed under the musical direction of Catherine Magowan. An album recording of the work will be released in 2023.

Opera RamblingsUnsurprisingly there’s a fair bit of dark humour.  It’s pretty hard to write entirely seriously for low brass outside the context of a large ensemble.

Exclusive MagazineThis sonic exploration of the relationship between health and the environment dutifully opens on the studiously playful, yet stridently profound Scan/Machine and then we are brought forth the playfully impassioned Boiling Frog, the low slung, lonesome ode Clear Cut/Lesions and then we get my own personal favorite, the intricately melodious Dead Zones: After the Fact.

The Intelligencer “Boiling Frog is dark, unsettling and bubbly. Clear Cut/Lesions features long, legato lines on viola and trombone, above the harmonic foundations lai out on piano. Other standout tracks include Aftershocks, Acclimation, Dead Zones: After the Fact and Scan/Machine.”
